“Je slame, tu slames” - Second special evening for the FIFA 2021

From March 16 to 28, 2021, the 39th edition of the Festival international du film sur l’art de Montréal (The FIFA) was held with 16 films and 25 short films in official competition.

On Thursday, October 14 at 8pm, the Canadian Cultural Centre invites you to discover the documentary Je slame, tu slames by Jean Fugazza, part of the selection for the 39th edition of The FIFA in 2021. The screening will be preceded by two short films: “Inuit Languages in the 21st Century” and “Louise Warren – Fragments”, also part of the Festival’s lineup.

“Je slame, tu slames” throws us into the world of slam, a space for oral creation, freedom of expression and poetic performance that has emerged throughout Quebec in recent years. 

For nearly 40 years, the Festival international du film sur l’art de Montréal (The FIFA) has been dedicated to the promotion and international influence of film on art and media arts in Canada.

Inuit Dialects in the 21st Century by Ulivia Uviluk

The Inuit do not speak one shared language, but several dialects that evolve from one generation to the next. The survival of these dialects has been threatened since European colonization, which also saw the introduction of writing to an essentially oral culture, and the influence of mass media. While searching for Inuktitut learning resources, filmmaker Ulivia Uvilik shares a video-call with two young women of her own generation — one in Greenland, the other in Nunavik — who, like her, hope to master their own mother tongues. 

Louise Warren — Fragments, by Anne-Marie Tougas

Louise Warren – Fragments goes to the very heart of the poet’s experience: her material and the space she inhabits. In a career spanning more than 35 years, Louise Warren has published numerous poetry collections as well as essays on the experience of creation and artwork.

Across Quebec, a growing community is joining in poetry slam evenings. Slammers of all ages, amateurs or professional artists, take the stage and take the microphone to enjoy a space of total freedom. Every year, the winner of the Quebec Grand Slam represents Quebec at the Slam World Cup in Paris. Following former World Cup winners like David Goudreault and Amélie Prévost, the founder of the Quebec slam league, Ivy, the documentary Je slame, tu slames leads us to discover this art at the crossroads.

In addition to its stopover at the Canadian Cultural Centre at the Embassy of Canada in Paris, the International Festival of Films on Art will continue to make news in Europe when it is guest of honour at the Palazzo Grassi on October 7–10, 2021. Its expertise in programming and dissemination of productions on art will also be hailed in Tourcoing, where FIFA will celebrate 20 years of close and fruitful collaboration with Le Fresnoy.

In response to French government measures, presentation of a valid health pass, a negative test or a recovery certificate will now be mandatory.
