Centre culturel canadien
November 08th, 2022
20:00 - 21:30
The Canadian Cultural Centre takes you on a journey to Canada’s Far North, to the heart of Yukon, with Gordie Tentrees and Diyet & The Love Soldiers. Reserve your seats for this exceptional evening of country, bluegrass, folk and traditional Indigenous music on Tuesday, November 8 at 8pm!
Gordie Tentrees was born in Hamilton, Ontario. He is the product of a colorful broken home raised on a family farm, then bounced around foster home homes finding focus in sport, even becoming a golden glove boxer. From the ring to the stage with stops in between as a school teacher and youth worker, he now lives in Yukon.
He will present his 8th album Mean Old World, in which he explores his past as a foster child, but also his present as a foster parent of an Indigenous child.
Diyet & The Love Soldiers, is alternative country, folk, roots and traditional with catchy melodies and stories deeply rooted in Diyet’s Indigenous world view and northern life.
Diyet sings in both English and Southern Tutchone (her native language) and plays bass guitar. Backed by Love Soldiers: husband and collaborator, Robert van Lieshout (acoustic guitar, drums & percussion) and Juno Award winning producer, Bob Hamilton (electric guitar, pedal steel & mandolin); this trio multi instrumental trio from the Yukon has a sound that can fill a big stage or capture an intimate room.
With their third album, Diyet & The Love Soldiers released in 2018, they received nominations for “Folk Album Of The Year” at “The Indigenous Music Awards”, “Indigenous Artist Of The Year” at the “Western Canadian Music Awards” and “Indigenous Songwriter Of The Year” at the “Canadian Folk Music Awards”.
