In 1914, Edward S. Curtis filmed the very first feature-length film starring members of the Kwakwaka’wakw communities, an exceptional record of life on the Pacific Northwest coast of North America. The power of the images is matched by the strength of the compositions by Apache violinist Laura Ortman.
Conceiving her works as sound sculptures, she uses an electroacoustic setup to create music in real time that resonates with both Indigenous heritage and the sounds of today.
