Performing Eyes

For these artists, who came to photography without any particular interest in mastering its technology, the point of view is an assigned place that creates a tension between the desire to be passive and an inclination to tinker. It is a place from which the visible is conceived of as a stage. But the spectator is summoned here to a strange spectacle: the action is that of contemplation. The scenery, now a set for a shadow theatre, does not stage a drama to be seen – be it one without visible characters – but sets in turn the spectator in the dense, almost stagnant layering of time.
