The Canadian pianist Jean-Philippe Sylvestre, who won first prize at the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Competition and prizes at several national and international competitions, will be playing a programme of virtuoso Russian music, intermingled with quiet contrasting works, allowing the artist to express musicality at its highest level. The conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin calls Sylvestre a poet of the piano. In addition, an extract from the famous and well-loved Concerto de Québec by the Canadian composer André Mathieu will also be played with a view to a performance with an orchestra on June 1, 2017.
