Jowee Omicil was born in Montreal to Haitian parents. A multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and teacher, he is an accomplished musician and a virtuoso of the saxophone, his favourite instrument.
Having attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston and the famous Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, Omicil has played live with the greatest artists of contemporary jazz, including Branford Marsalis, Marcus Miller, Pharaoh Sanders and Kenny Garrett, his friend and mentor. A musician with many influences, his style, described as “world Caribbean”, blends elements of hip hop, gospel, kompa, jazz, blues, funk, reggae and bossa nova. Touring Europe to promote the upcoming release of his third album Naked, Omicil will be making a stop at the Canadian Cultural Centre before performing at the prestigious Jazz à Vienne festival.
