Malika Tirolien
At the crossroads of jazz, funk and hip hop
Centre culturel canadien
April 14th, 2023
20:00 - 21:30
On April 14 at 8p.m., the Canadian Cultural Centre is pleased to present Canadian-Guadeloupean artist Malika Tirolien. At the crossroads of jazz, funk and hip hop, come discover this artist with a flying voice!
A remarkable singer, musician, composer and producer, Malika Tirolien has collaborated with Snarky Puppy, a multi-Grammy award-winning American group. Her electrifying performance of “I’m not the one”, with over 2 million views on YouTube, was a real hit!
Her album Higher is the second part of a tetralogy representing the four elements. Started in 2014 with the album Sur La Voie Ensoleillée, the artist chose to represent the EARTH (roots and anchoring). With Higher, released in 2021, she chose to symbolise AIR (elevation and the wind of change).
The album shines with afro-futuristic styles, recorded in co-production with her colleague Michael League from Bokanté, with whom she has toured in more than 20 countries. Higher introduces a new genre called “high soul”, mixing R&B, soul, hip hop and jazz.
In her songs, Malika Tirolien shares the thoughts and views of a fictional black woman who relates her spiritual and psychedelic journey from anger to forgiveness in a whirlwind of emotions.
A concert that sounds like nothing else!
