Mégantic

Les Rencontres d’Arles presents some of the work of Montreal photographer Benoit Aquin in a retrospective of the Prix Pictet. Winner of this famous prize in 2008 for his series The Chinese Dust Bowl, the artist has been travelling for more than twenty years on almost every continent to bear witness to the often conflicting relationship between man and territory.

In the aftermath of the Lac-Mégantic train accident, the photographer patiently set out to patiently survey the troubled heart of the city. Benoit Aquin wonders about the human and environmental impacts generated by the political and economic ambitions justifying oil exploitation.
