On Friday, December 2 at 8:00 p.m., the Canadian Cultural Centre invites you to “Baveuse City” in the colourful, feminist and engaged universe of Canadian rapper and producer Marie-Gold.
A master at doing whatever she wants, Marie-Gold, whose real name is Chloé Pilon-Vaillancourt, challenges established codes. She wants to bring a lighter side to Quebec rap.
Her second album, a concept album, demonstrates this. “Bienvenue à Baveuse City” presents the fictional city of “Baveuse City” where Marie-Gold plays the role of the “Baveuse”.
Mixing the absurd with the engaged and the playful with the sensitive, the richness of the themes (environment, injustice, gender equality, politics) is combined with solid and varied beats.
A dynamic, entertaining and thoughtful musical immersion rarely seen in the rap landscape!
Marie-Gold began her career as a producer with the all-female collective Bad Nylon, before going solo in 2018 with her self-produced EP “Goal: A Melody”. With this project, she became the first woman to win the Quebec independent music award, GAMIQ “Rap EP of the Year”.
During the same period, she cut her teeth in rap battles and became the first woman to reach the top league of WordUp! rap battles.
