Eric Cameron
Record of Work
As the fruit of a long collaboration between the artist and curator Catherine Bédard, this exhibition is the culmination of a true dialogue that led to the idea of stressing not just the display of certain works, but also Cameron’s overall artistic programme. Hence the show’s title, Record of Work, which refers to “work” as process more than as object. The unusually substantial catalogue includes the artist’s impressive collection of notes, serving as a material and conceptual record of this affinity between labour (work) and art (work). The exhibition and publication present and discuss a set of works from the ongoing series of Thick Paintings (to be continued), along with the artist’s famous “Sheets of check marks”, which have considerable documentary importance as a record of Cameron’s programme of work over the last thirty years.
