Jazzycolors Festival

As part of the Jazzycolors Festival, the Canadian Cultural Centre is hosting Montreal-based pianist, composer and improviser Karl-A. Rozankovic, an emerging voice on the Canadian jazz scene.

Trained in classical piano before going on to study jazz at McGill University under renowned musicians such as Jean-Michel Pilc, Marianne Trudel and John Hollenbeck, Karl-A. Rozankovic has developed a unique approach in which improvisation takes centre stage. His work explores the boundaries between composition and spontaneity, tradition and experimentation, in a musical quest that is at once rigorous, intuitive and deeply personal.

As co-founder of the group Solarium, he won First Prize at the Sutton Jazz Competition and the Grand Prix at the Festi Jazz de Rimouski with the band. Their album aube/nocturne was nominated for the GAMIQ 2024 award for Jazz Album of the Year.

A winner of the Université Laval Emerging Artist Award, he has also pursued a distinguished solo career, with several recordings to his name and a busy schedule as a pianist, arranger and composer.

For this concert, Karl-A. Rozankovic invites the audience to discover his musical world through a solo project that navigates between original compositions and spontaneous improvisations. At the crossroads of contemporary jazz, neo-classical influences and ambient electronic textures, he transforms the piano into a veritable sound laboratory.

At a pivotal moment in his career, as he prepares for the release of three new albums – including Kaleidofonia, a duo with the Italian pianist Amalia Deorsola – Karl-A. Rozankovic offers a sensitive and open-ended musical experience, where each performance is shaped in the moment and invites the audience to explore the unexpected.
