Flagpole

Affiche Flagpole 2010
Flagpole, Plateforme, Paris, 2010

Cécile Azoulay // Ludovic Bernhardt // Rose Berthier (French identity of Patricia Reed) // Thierry Boutonnier // Jean Cerezal-Callizo // Société Réaliste //

Flag, banner, standard, ensign, pennant: multiple names for multiple vectors. The Flagpole exhibition brings together works that, by way of the form or idea of the flag, suggest possible territories, new economies, artificial politics and utopian spaces.

In these times of protectionism of national colours, the exhibition aims – using the stereotyped and identifiable model of the flag as a starting point – to propose fields of research whose subjects go beyond the simple formal aspect and open up new spaces of thought. A unifying pretext, the flag –given a twist, redesigned, thwarted, deconstructed or sometimes only suggested – acts as a generator of alternative images, a discursive support.
