The Journées Internationales du Film sur l’Art present a selection of recent productions, round tables and debates with filmmakers, and the prizewinning films of the 2009 edition of the Montreal International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA). The opening night is dedicated, this year, to the famous Canadian filmmaker Guy Maddin Maddin (Odilon Redon – L’œil comme un étrange ballon se dirige vers l’infini, Can., 1995, 5 min), a portrait of the Canadian photographer Karsh by Quebec filmmaker Joseph Hillel (Karsh, un regard sur l‘histoire Can/Qc, 2009, 52 min), Award for Best Canadian Film at FIFA 2009, and Solo, Grand Prize at FIFA, by polish filmmaker Maciej Pisarek.
Every year, the prizewinning films of the latest edition of FIFA are presented on an international circuit that includes the Louvre in Paris, the Studio National Le Fresnoy in Tourcoing (France), the Paley Center for Media in New York, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, the St. Louis Art Museum, the National Gallery of Art in Boston, the Musée national des beaux-arts in Quebec City, and the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa
