Between 1950 and 1996, thousands of Canadian Armed Forces and Royal Canadian Mounted Police members as well as federal employees were intimidated, hounded, and dismissed because of their sexual orientation as part of a systemic purge by the Canadian government. The campaign to identify and remove LGBT public servants based on their sexual identity or gender expression destroyed the lives of thousands of them. The documentary The Purge by Orlando Arriagada tells the story of three of these victims and takes us on a poignant journey into this dark chapter of Canadian history.
The screening will be followed by a discussion.
