Through the asperities of an untranslatable title that is pronounced differently to how it is written, À Cris Ouverts aims to place itself beyond a dominant – orthodox – vision of the economy and evoke what resides outside regulatory mechanisms. The artists brought together improvise and act in the intersections and chinks in the systems. They fashion values that are inevitably transitory, design worlds based on relations, in which the actions can be calm, unpredictable, disorderly or discreet.

Screens, scanners, printers—through all these appliances text and image travel and dematerialize while being distorted. An artist with mixed Haida and Québec heritage, Raymond Boisjoly invites us to reflect on how just looking is instrumental in the processes of transmission and reception of information which build our cultures at large.
