With Les grandes personnes, enter the world of Joséphine and her caustic sense of humour! On Thursday, January 25 at 8pm, the Canadian Cultural Centre invites you to a theatrical reading by the Quebec company Le Carrousel, based on a text by Marie-Hélène Larose-Truchon, and directed by Marie-Ève Huot.

Joséphine is a life coach for children and gives tips and tricks on how to interact better with grown-ups. She offers ten lessons “during which she explores the beast from top to bottom”. Joséphine is not alone: an old woman is listening to her. Gradually, this interlocutor becomes a friendly and reassuring presence.

The theatrical reading Les grandes personnes will be just as hilarious for young audiences, who will recognise their parents, as it will be for adults, who will recognise themselves in their contradictions!

Marie-Hélène Larose-Truchon
Born in Montreal in 1980, Marie-Hélène Larose-Truchon won the “Théâtre pour le jeune public et la relève” competition with her play Reviens! one year after graduating from the National Theatre School of Canada. She received a special mention at the Gratien-Gélinas prize for Minuit (published by Leméac) in 2013 and for Un oiseau m’attend in 2015. She is also the author of plays for young audiences (Crème-Glacée and Amande-Amandine, both published by L’Arche Éditeur). These plays have been produced by Petit Théâtre de Sherbrooke, Double Signes and Vincent Goethals in Metz, France. In recent years, she runs a writing workshop at the National Theatre School of Canada. Her play Les grandes personnes will soon be published by L’Arche.

Marie-Ève Huot
Marie-Eve Huot is one of a new generation of artists committed to stage dramaturgy for young audiences. In 2007, she co-founded the Théâtre Ébouriffé company, with which she created the shows Cabaret au bazar, Un château sur le dos, Nœuds papillon and Des pieds et des mains. She has appeared in a number of productions, including Wajdi Mouawad’s Assoiffés. Her direction of Suzanne Lebeau’s Une lune entre deux maisons won the LOJIQ/RIDEAU Francophonie Prize (2013). In 2021, Marie-Eve Huot became artistic director of Le Carrousel. That same year, she directed Antigone sous le soleil de midi, based on a text by Suzanne Lebeau. In 2023, she was a finalist for the Prix Jovette-Marchessault.

Les grandes personnes is created by the Carrousel, a Quebec theatre company, in co-production with the Théâtre du Bic (Quebec), and supported by Tréteaux de France – Centre Dramatique National.
