Les Grizzlies

On Monday, December 2 at 8 p.m., the Canadian Cultural Centre will host the opening of Ciné Alter’Natif Festival, the only one in France entirely dedicated to films directed and/or produced by Indigenous artists.

This 10th edition, entitled “Sports. Indigenousness. Pride,” highlights the important contributions of Indigenous athletes and their ancestral and more recent sports practices that are still too often forgotten in our collective memory and largely absent from our screens.

To open the festival, discover the French premiere of Miranda de Pencier’s “The Grizzlies”, a powerful film, inspired by a true story, which illustrates the determination and resilience of a group of young Inuit. The feature film will be preceded by the screening of the short film “Inuit High Kick” by Alethea Arnaquq-Baril.

Programme – 105 min

INUIT HIGH KICK
by Alethea Arnaquq‐Baril (Inuk)
Canada, 2009, 3 min – silent ‐ French premiere

THE GRIZZLIES
by Miranda de Pencier
Canada, 2018, 1h42 – VOSTFR ‐ French premiere

In a small Arctic town where the suicide rate is the highest in North America, a group of Inuit students are transformed by the sport of lacrosse during a program initiated by their new history teacher, Russ Sheppard.

Don’t hesitate to discover the entire programme of the Ciné Alter’Natif festival in Paris from December 2 to 4, then in Nantes from December 5 to 8: 2024 Programme – De la Plume à l’Ecran
