Through the festive show “MEC on Stage”, the Canadian Cultural Centre invites you to celebrate the Centennial of Maison des étudiants canadiens (MEC), this venerable and dynamic Canadian institution nestled in the heart of the Cité internationale universitaire in Paris since 1926 !
For 100 years, MEC has forged strong ties between France and Canada and has welcomed many students from across Canada, some of whom has become illustrious figures such as Pierre Elliott Trudeau, Gaston Miron, Émile Borduas or Adrienne Clarkson. The show “Mec on Stage” recounts a little of this rich and fabulous history through a production that combines readings of surprising stories and delightful anecdotes from residents, peppered by musical excerpts performed by the trio musical and video broadcasts.
The trio musical is composed of residents, Lexie Krakowski a master’s student in musicology specializing in cello the École Normale de Musique de Paris, Jon Gill a master’s student in political sciences at the Institut d’Études Politiques and Christophe Groulx a doctoral student in the history of philosophy.
Readings by the residents:
1946 : Les Quatre Cents Coups – Pierre Eliot Trudeau
1949 : “Benny & Bill”
1960 : La mort de Borduas
2003 : La embajadora
The show is narrated by Thomas Windish, resident and president of the residents committee, a doctoral student in law.
