July 4 to 10 : Robert Lepage: Le Rossignol et autres fables d’Igor Stravinsky

As the summer highlight of the international musical and lyric seasons, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence has chosen this year to travel through the magic of Igor Stravinsky’s opera tale The Nightingale and other fables. To recreate those worlds emerging from childhood, the famous stage and video director from Quebec Robert Lepage, changes the codes of opera dramatically and transposes the piece on a water jewel case where a shadow theater and Vietnamese water puppets move about. Co-produced with the Canadian Opera Company, this opera enjoyed a huge success at the time of its creation in Toronto, last November. Do not miss it!

July 5 to 11 : The Return – El regreso, an opera order made to composer Oscar Strasnoy and based on Alberto Manguel’s libretto, takes the form of an initiation journey through exile and celebrates the ‘return’ of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence to the so highly esteemed site of the Grand Saint Jean.

The Festival reinforces its relation to nature and the open air when creating warm and intimate performance locations with support acts of small lyric, choreographic or literary forms allowing people to discover the magic of the site and the light of the setting sun.

World creation.
