Svadba/Wedding is an opera produced for the first time in Toronto in June 2011by Queen of Puddings Music Theatre. The composer, Ana Sokolovic, is a Canadian of Serbian origin.
The story takes place the night before Milica’s wedding. Her friends have come to keep her company throughout the night to help her prepare for the big day by playing games evocative of pagan rituals. The libretto was inspired by the rich Serbian poetry of folktale and the music by traditional Balkan songs.
