The exhibition Témoin. Art canadien de la Première Guerre mondiale, presented at the Musée des Beaux-Arts d’Arras, was put together by the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa. It features works of art inspired by direct experience of the war, including sketched, prints and officially commissioned paintings. A century ago, these works of art by Canadian artists and soldiers contributed to giving an idea of the reality of the First World War to their fellow citizens. They still are part of our imaginations, symbolizing the sacrifices made and the unprecedented destruction of the war between 1914 and 1918.
