For almost a year, Ukraine has faced the unjustifiable violation of its territorial integrity and sovereignty. The Embassy of Ukraine in France in partnership with the Embassy of Canada in France will present an internationally acclaimed multimedia exhibition at the Grand Palais Immersif on Monday February 20.

First unveiled at the Toronto Ukrainian Festival in September 2022, the immersive exhibit Ukraine: A Year of Resilience, a Culture of Resistance features Ukraine’s most significant masterpieces by artists Taras Shevchenko and Mariia Prymachenko, as well as photojournalistic footage from the war in Ukraine.

Taras Shevchenko is a 19th century Ukrainian artist, poet, philosopher and public figure who is celebrated all over Ukraine and the world.

20th century folk painter Mariia Prymachenko is an acclaimed Ukrainian artist whose works even attracted the attention of Pablo Picasso. She was a self-taught artist famous in her lifetime for her vivid use of colour, fanciful depictions of plants and animals such as lions, birds, farm animals, and imagined beasts, and her playful use of pattern.

While living in two different centuries, both Taras Shevchenko and Mariia Prymachenko remain emblems in Ukraine, whose works represent the Ukrainian soul, values, and identity.

Additionally, the series will feature a segment called Ukraine: Land of the Brave, which through the full power of immersion plunges the audience into the daily reality of the war in Ukraine, and its effect on Ukrainian citizens. Visitors will be able to experience videos, photos, and interviews with everyday Ukrainians who are defending their homeland.

The exhibit series was created in a collaboration between Kostyuk Productions, the First Theatrical Charitable Foundation and the National Museum of Taras Shevchenko. Produced by Valeriy Kostyuk and Natalya Deliyeva, with creative direction by RockNLight Multimedia’s Tais Poda, and musical curation by Timur Polyanskiy.

With the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Canadian Art Foundation and the International Renaissance Foundation. Partners of the event in Paris: Cultural Center of the Embassy of Ukraine in France, Association Les amis de la culture ukrainienne en France, Canadian Cultural Centre in France.
