Ed Pien
Deep Waters

For his first solo exhibition in France, Edward Pien presented a monumental work conceived specifically for the gallery of the Canadian Cultural Centre. Behind a circular mural structure set up in the space like an awkward and fragile sculpture, a series of concentric corridors unfold, where superimposed drawings of characters and animals intertwine. This floating darkness, glistening under sombre blue-hued lighting, invites us to transgress the limits of the visible. In this labyrinth of myths, images and troubling life-size beings, Pien questions the concepts of vulnerability, fear and discomfort. His drawings create scenes with imagery made of evocative and expressive figures, often marked by sexual ambiguity.
