Mark Lewis – Master Class
Centre culturel canadien
October 02nd, 2019
20:00 - 21:30
Mark Lewis, renowned for his exploration of the cinematic image, presents three works of his Canada series (Arrival, Galveston, Things Seen, 2017) and two works in 3D animation (Museum, 2018 and Bauhaus, 2019). The films delve into the world we live in, where technologies of the moving image have radically transformed our perception and experience of time.
Museum offers an unseen-before view of the collections at the Sao Paulo Museum of Art. Bauhaus deconstructs and recombines the famous architectures of Dessau, in Germany, using 400 iphone photographs taken on site.
With Arrival, Galveston and Things Seen, Mark Lewis explores different relations of tension between a subject (the airport terminal of Gander, Newfoundland, a swimmer emerging from the water of Lake Ontario, at Scarborough Bluffs) and the camera, to create vertigo (Galveston), to play on the frontier between desire and predation (Things Seen), or denounce the opacity of a place filled with military and governmental secrets (Arrival).
Mark Lewis represented Canada at the 2009 Venice Biennale. Recently, he has been exhibited in France at l’Espace de l’art concret (2013), the Musée du Louvre (2014) and the BAL (2015).
