Encounter with David Chariandy on the occasion of the publication of his book I Have Been Meaning to Tell You: A Letter to My Daughter (ZOE editions, February 2020).

David Chariandy may have been born in Canada, but one day a woman in a restaurant in Vancouver suggests, in the presence of his daughter, that he is not at home.

Ten years later, he writes an open letter to his teenage daughter. It is about belonging; about his ancestors and his, Afro-Asian origins; about her identity, with her white from the Canadian upper class. There is no acrimony when he talks about the wound of racism, just lucidity, modesty and tenderness that make this important text an invitation to determine oneself freely.

The encounter with David Chariandy will be moderated by Sophie Joubert (journalist at L’Humanité) and will be followed by a signing session.
