Having received special mention of the jury for the TD Grand Jazz Award of the 34th Festival international de Jazz de Montréal and Prix Coup de Coeur du Public 2013 at the Festi Jazz International de Rimouski, the Emie R Roussel Trio, comprising Emie Rioux-Roussel (piano), Nicolas Bédard (bass) and Dominic Cloutier (drums), is a mainstay of the Canadian contemporary jazz scene.
Creative and energetic, the trio plays music that skilfully blends the influences of European and North American jazz. The compositions of pianist Emie Rioux-Roussel, nominated Révélation Radio-Canada Jazz 2014–15, are performed with passion and sensitivity by the three musicians.
The trio’s second album, TRANSI, won the Jazz Album of the Year award at the Prix Opus 2013–14. In 2015 the trio released its third album, Quantum. The creativity and tightness of the three members are one again evident on the new record, a very personal work marked by the group’s remarkable acoustic guitar sound and a groovier sonic texture.
