From March 24 to 27, Dieppe will host the 9th edition of the Festival du film canadien de Dieppe, which will have a very special meaning this year: the festival will mark the launch of a season dedicated to Canada, to mark the 80th anniversary of the Dieppe Raid of August 19, 1942.
The jury will be chaired by Suzanne Clément, Xavier Dolan’s favourite actress, who has made a name in the film industry between Canada and France.
Among the dozen Canadian films presented over the four days of the festival, Maria by Canadian director Alec Pronovost, starring Canadian comedian Marianna Mazza, will be previewed at the opening ceremony on 24 March.
Maria wants to be a full-time comedian, but only gets small contracts for ridiculous commercials. She was surprised when she was accepted as a substitute teacher at a secondary school. With no preparation or training, the young woman tries to make her way with these not-so-insensitive teenagers.
