“Surviving Progress” presents the story of human advancement as both admirable and perilous. The film reveals the risk of running 21st-century software (our knowhow) on our primate brain, hardware that hasn’t been upgraded in 50,000 years. With magnificent images and captivating music, the documentary takes a subversive look at the progress of humanity and its traps. Through memorable scenes and the clear-sightedness of thinkers such as David Suzuki, Jane Goodall, Margaret Atwood and Stephen Hawking, directors Mathieu Roy and Harold Crooks examine the essential and disturbing nature of what is called progress.
