Edward Burtynsky, in partnership with the Canadian Cultural Centre and the Embassy of Canada in France, are pleased to present a panel discussion with Scotiabank Photography Award (SPA) laureate photographers:  Moyra Davey, Shelley Niro and Suzy Lake.

The Scotiabank Photography Award is Canada’s largest and most prestigious annual peer-nominated and peer-reviewed award that acknowledges the outstanding contribution that the winners have made to contemporary art and photography. These are artists who strive to invent, influence and redefine the perception of art in ways that will endure.

The Award includes a book of the laureate’s work published and distributed worldwide by Steidl verlag. The SPA was co-founded in 2010 by Edward Burtynsky, internationally-renowned Canadian photo artist and Chair of the Scotiabank Photography Award jury, and Scotiabank.

This discussion examines the importance and relevancy of fine-art photography books in the era of digital publication technology and social media, and the impact of the printed book on creative practice and career development in the arts.

A panel moderated by  Catherine Bédard (Curator and Deputy Director of  the Canadian Cultural Centre) and Edward Burtynsky (Photographer, Filmmaker, Lecturer)
