18:30 - 20:00
A literary evening at the Canadian Cultural Centre Friday, September 30, at 6:30 p.m. with writers Nancy Lee and John Vigna.
In partnership with Festival America
The evening will be hosted by Francis Geffard (editor at Éditions Albin Michel) and simultaneous translation will be provided by Dominique Chevallier.
The recipient of several grants, residencies, and prizes, Nancy Lee is the noted author of Dead Girls, a collection of short stories. When it was published in Canada by McClelland & Stewart in 2002, the book was hailed as “among the bravest fictional debuts in recent memory”. The Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star and the Vancouver Sun cited it as one of the best books of the years and it was NOW Magazine’s Book of the Year. It won the Van City Book Prize in 2003 and was a finalist for several literary prizes in Canada. The collection was published in France by Buchet-Chastel in 2006.
Very involved in literary circles, Nancy Lee has participated in many juries and conferences. She is currently occupying a writer’s residency offered by Festival America (Vincennes).
John Vigna has won the Dave Greber Prize, the sub-Terrain Lush Triumphant Fiction contest and the (non-fiction) literary contest de la Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. He teaches at the University of the Fraser Valley, at Douglas College and at Vancouver Island University.
His writing – fiction and non fiction – has appeared in magazines, journals and anthologies including Cabin Fever: The Best New Canadian Non-Fiction, The Dalhousie Review, Event sub-Terrain, The Antigonish Review.
